Project Reveal: Cozy Breakfast Nook

If you’ve been here for a while, you may remember a transformation we completed last year for two Greenville, NC professionals in need of a living room they could entertain in.

In case you missed that, you can find out all about it here! This month had the honor to continue working in this busy couple’s home by finishing out their breakfast nook area. My goal was to create a cozy space that would serve as a respite before they rush out the door to their demanding jobs. Since we last worked with this couple, they both have launched their own successful businesses! Being a business owner myself, I can certainly relate to the need to find peace before the day starts, and a breakfast nook is the perfect place to do just that. Let’s look at where we started…

Before

Obviously, this space did not get a lot of love or use, which is a shame! When homeowners purchase a larger home, they have grand ideas about all the new free space they’ll have to spread out. Sometimes, soon after they move in they realize that furnishing and decorating all that space takes way more than what they anticipated. We love that, because that’s where we come in!

For this breakfast nook we added some architectural interest by installing a shiplap accent wall. When all the walls within an open concept are the same, this is a great way to add depth and character. The couple loves the modern farmhouse aesthetic, and it’s true to their neighborhood as well! (Their home literally backs up to a corn field!) So combining the shiplap with this industrial light fixture just added to the view seen through this gorgeous window. Adding a large jute rug to the floor minimizes the existing vinyl flooring and honestly just feels good under your feet! We finished off the table with some simple, modern settings.

I think my favorite part is the wood art piece above the window. She had purchased this piece and simply tossed it in the garage not knowing where to place it. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be perfect above the window!

Here’s how the room looks now:

Is there a space in your home that you have neglected and want to finally finish?

We’re happy to assist! The first step is a design consultation and then we take it from there! In 6-8 weeks we can give you the HGTV experience of walking into a fully completed room after just one install day.
